Conclave on Solid Waste Management on 22nd February, 2020.

A UNIQUE INITIATIVE

Howrah Municipal Corporation had organized a grand Conclave on Solid Waste Management on 22nd February, 2020. This conclave was a part of the Mission Clean & Green Howrah, a unique initiative first of its kind taken up by the corporation under the flagship programme of Mission Nirmal Bangla. The occasion was graced by the august presence of Shri Arup Roy, Hon’ble Minister In-charge, Co-operation Department.

MY WASTE IS MY RESPONSIBILITY

This mega conclave had a series of events like rollout of Mission Clean & Green Howrah and Ward-22 Pilot Project. The Residence Welfare Associations signed & handed over the Memorandum of Understanding- an agreement providing consent for systematically following the SWM rules to the Commissioner, Howrah Municipal Corporation. A network of students for SWM awareness coined as Green Volunteers were introduced followed by their oath taking ceremony for creating SWM awareness among the masses in every level of the society.
The major highlight of the conclave was a cultural programme & poster design competition themed ‘My waste my responsibility’ where in more than 100 students participated from all over Howrah district, giving them an opportunity to paint their imagination into a colorful canvas along with exhibition stalls on Solid Waste Management.

SUCCESS STORY

The event garnered a lot of appreciation & reverberated its success through mass participation along with few notable dignitaries. The event achieved its aim to trigger & create an awareness among the citizens of Howrah on SWM, thereby creating Green City, Clean City. In times to come many such success stories will be echoed in different parts of Howrah, moving towards a greener, sustainable & waste free tomorrow.
